Waiting for the Light

Waiting For The Light

Standing on the corner
New York early evening
Waiting for the light
Gentle rain falling
In an autumn caress
You appear in the mist
Across the crowded street
Almost forgotten memories
Of a young romance
Warm hungry bodies
Rolling across tired sheets
Making breathless promises
Filled with untruths
A bus sneaks between us
And then moves on
Carrying you away
To today’s anxious lover
Leaving behind only
Empty distant illusions
